Rise Toolkit

We created an implementation toolkit for Rise that includes a standardized manual and eleven training videos. The Standardized Manual provides a detailed step-by-step guide of how to implement the Rise program.

Motivational Interviewing Skills

Open-Ended Questions

Watch this demonstration of open-ended questions, a key Motivational Interviewing skill. Open-ended questions are a cornerstone of the Rise program, helping peer counselors to uncover clients' stories in their own words.

Reflections

Learn how reflections, a basic Motivational Interviewing skill, are used in Rise. Reflections involve restating or rephrasing clients' statements to show that their emotions and experiences have been heard and understood.

Affirmations

This video presents a demonstration of affirmations. Affirmations are at the heart of the Rise program, helping a counselor recognize and reinforce a client’s strengths and movements toward change.

Stigma

This video describes stigma-related challenges that can make it hard for clients living with or affected by HIV to take the first step toward treatment or stay consistent with taking their medications.

Basic Needs

This video discusses how challenges in meeting basic needs like for housing, food, and transportation can affect Black clients’ adherence to treatment.

Comorbidities

This video depicts stories of challenges in managing multiple conditions and medications among Black clients living with and affected by HIV.

Transgender Clients’ Experience
