Rise Toolkit

Rise was developed and tested in a series of community-based participatory research studies at APLA Health starting in 2006. Rise was tested in two randomized controlled trials (described here and here) and has been shown to improve HIV treatment adherence, lower HIV stigma, and reduce medical mistrust.

Rise was originally developed in California with people with HIV. Additional research was conducted in Alabama to adapt Rise further for settings in the U.S. South and to encompass adherence for other types of medications and conditions for people with and without HIV.

Rise was included in the CDC’s Compendium of Evidence-Based Interventions and Best Practices for HIV Prevention.
